Chinese Wearable Technology Firm Huami to Launch New OS with Better Understanding of Users

Chinese smart wearable device manufacturer Zepp Health, previously known in the international market as Huami, has announced that it planned to unveil its own OS, labelling it “a wearable system that understands users better and is more suitable for watches”.

Zepp Health will hold its Next Beat 2021 Conference, dubbed “The Future of Health”, on July 13, focusing on bringing about a healthy future ecology.

The company will also release a new “Huangshan” chip, which will add an independent GPU to improve device graphics performance.

Previously, Zepp Health released its financial report for the first quarter of 2021, which revealed that its operating income reached RMB 1.1 billion yuan ($175.1 million), up 5.4% year-on-year. Among them, its independent brands Amazfit and Zepp developed rapidly, with revenues increasing by 84.4% year-on-year.

On March 1 of this year, Huang Wang, founder and CEO of Zepp Health, said in an open letter to users, partners and employees that the company had officially changed its global name from Huami to Zepp Health Corporation. Following the decision,and the firm’s NYSE code changed from HMI to ZEPP, while its Chinese name remained unchanged.

The company owns Amazfit and Zepp, as well as smart hardware product lines for smart watches, bracelets, headphones and treadmills.

According to a report released by the IDC in the first quarter of 2021, the global sales volume of Amazfit and Zepp watches exceeded 1.65 million units, an increase of 68.8% year-on-year, whileshipments rushed into the global top four for the first time.

Zepp Health was founded in December 2013, and rapidly grew to become one of the world’s leading smart wearable companies, landing on the NYSE in early 2018. In July of that year, the company also acquired the core assets of Zepp International, a startup located in the Silicon Valley, USA, focusing on intelligent motion sensor technology and personalized health management.
