Great Wall Motor’s HAVAL to Stop Selling Fuel Vehicles by 2030

On August 22, Chinese automaker Great Wall Motor announced at a new energy strategy conference in Beijing that its sub-brand HAVAL will stop selling fuel-powered vehicles before 2030. The brand also revealed that by 2025, new energy vehicles will account for 80% of its sales.

In order to better develop and plow deeper into the new energy field, Great Wall Motor says it will set up the HAVAL New Energy company in the future. In 2021, the R&D investment of the company was nearly 10 billion yuan ($1.46 billion), and by 2025, the accumulated amount is expected to reach 100 billion yuan. At the same time, relying on the empowerment of its self-developed “L.E.M.O.N DHT” technology, the company is set to accelerate its electric transformation around the parallel of hybrid, pure electric and hydrogen energy.

In addition, the third-generation HAVAL H6 DHT was officially released at a price of 149,800 yuan. In addition, the third-generation HAVAL H6 DHT-PHEV started pre-sale simultaneously, priced between 168,800 yuan and 176,800 yuan.

In terms of appearance, the third-generation HAVAL H6 DHT is not much different from the fuel version currently on sale. The length, width and height of the new car are 4653mm, 1886mm, 1730mm respectively, and the wheelbase is 2738mm. It is equipped with a 10.25-inch central control panel, which can be linked with a 12.3-inch full LCD meter and a HUD.

The two new models are the most different from the fuel versions in power. The new HAVAL H6 DHT will be equipped with a hybrid system consisting of a 1.5T engine and a motor, in which the maximum power of the engine is 110 kW and that of the motor is 130 kW. The official comprehensive fuel consumption per 100 km is only 4.9 liters.

However, data regarding the power of the new HAVAL H6 DHT-PHEV have not been officially released, and the firm has said only that it will provide two pure electric battery life versions – 55 km and 110 km.

“By the end of this year, we hope that hybrid can account for 40% of the sales of HAVAL H6 main models,” said Li Xiaorui, CEO of HAVAL.
