Honor and Zhipu AI Form Partnership to Advance AI Technology in Smart Devices

On September 4th, Chinese AI start-up Zhipu AI and smartphone manufacturer Honor officially announced that they had signed an agreement to establish a joint laboratory focusing on large-scale AI model technology. The signing took place in Beijing on September 2nd.

Zhipu AI has expressed that this strategic partnership aims to delve deeper into the exploration of AI experiences based on user scenarios. Both parties intend to jointly foster innovation in the technology and applications of large-scale models in the realm of smart devices. It’s expected that this collaboration will enhance AI services for users, with Honor’s range of products, like foldable screen phones, playing a significant role.

Fang Fei, the head of Honor’s product line, shared that the collaboration with Zhipu is a convergence of shared goals and mutual capabilities. He believes that the ongoing close collaboration will expedite the transformation of how humans interact with smart devices and enrich user experience. This partnership is seen as a cornerstone for Honor’s continued advancements in the field of AI.

Honor has been an early adopter of AI, having embraced the technology since 2016. They have been focusing on edge AI technology, which includes the development of a personalized operating system, MagicOS. This system, based on intent recognition, is designed to adapt and learn from user behavior over time. Honor has also been leveraging AI to enhance hardware capabilities and create innovative experiences, such as improved eye protection features.

In addition, Honor has globally introduced a four-tier AI architecture, which encompasses AI-enabled cross-system integration, AI-driven operating system restructuring, edge-based AI applications, and collaborative AI efforts between edge devices and cloud systems.
