Shenzhen-based auto company BYD’s monthly sales has increased rapidly after launching the BYD Dolphin after which the company will expand its marine series by launching the Seagull, Sea Lion and Seal series throughout 2022. The BYD Sea Lion model is a pure electric medium-sized SUV, and its road test leaked photo surfaced on July 28.
From the photos, the overall shape of the new model is lower than that of a typical SUV, giving it a “swooping feeling” and therefore creating a sporty look. However, because it is a road test run, the body of the vehicle was completely wrapped in camouflage stickers, with a large number of temporary parts, such as a front grille and headlights.
This model adopts tilted side spoilers, and may feature new rim settings. In addition, the photos also show that the model will be equipped with a large suspended console display.
According to BYD’s previous plan, the length, width and height of the model may be 4770, 1910 and 1620 mm, with a wheelbase of 2900mm. In addition, its longest cruising range may exceed 700km. Like BYD Seagull and Seal, the car will be built based on e-platform 3.0 and benchmarking against the Model Y, which is expected to be unveiled this year.
In terms of power, the car will also probably provide rear drive and four-wheel drive versions. For reference, the BYD Seal’s rear drive version uses a motor with a maximum power of 150 kW and a peak torque of 310 Nm, while the four-wheel drive version features dual motors with the front consisting of 160 kW, the back 230 kW and its comprehensive maximum power of 390 kW can accelerate the vehicle from 0 to 100 km/s in 3.8 seconds.
The BYD Seal has been released and pre-sold. It is the first high-end sedan equipped with the e-platform 3.0, and the second pure-electric model of BYD’s Marine Life series after the Dolphin. It has three available cruising versions, with a maximum cruising range of 700km pre-sold at 212,800 to 289,800 yuan ($31,536.96 to $42,948.36).
