On the evening of April 22, Meizu released their new flagship phone series, the Meizi 15, while celebrating their 15th anniversary in the ancient water town of Wuzhen.
The Meizu 15 series has all-metal bodies available in 5 colours: Ink Black, Elegant Gold, Indigo Blue, Xuanwu Gray, and the much anticipated Ru-ware White. The Ru-ware White is a colour It used paint from the Japanese company Cashew to create a white made famous by the Ru wares through a very complicated process.
On top of the phone are hidden receiver and breath light. Infrared transceivers, environmental and distance sensors are also hidden underneath the glass, with only one receive exposed on outside.
Meizu 15 has a weight of only 152 grams and a thickness of 7.25 mm. Its width is controlled within 72 mm for one-handed operations. It also has an ultra-narrow frame of 1.175mm.
The screen is Samsung’s customized Super AMOLED screen. Meizu 15 is equipped with a 5.46-inch screen with HD displays, and Meizu 15 Plus is equipped with a 5.95-inch screen with a 2K display, with contrast ratio of 10000:1. It displays 103% of the NTSC and DCI-P3 color spaces at a screen brightness of 430 nits. The screen also has eye protection mode, color management and Always-on Display (AOD), a special feature of Super AMOLED.
As for front-facing fingerprint recognition, it uses a home key similar to the iPhone, with a fingerprint recognition rate of 99%. Its recognition time is under 0.08 seconds which is achieved through the in-depth optimization of the Flyme 7 operating system.
Cellphone photography is a major selling point of the 15 series. The rear dual cameras use the same Sony IMX380 sensor as the Huawei P20, featuring a combination of wide-angle and telephoto lenses, 1.55 micron pixels, 3x lossless zoom and 4-axis optical image stabilization.
The Flyme 7 operating system also has a tailored intelligent scenarios recognition system that supports dozens of scenarios. The front-facing camera has been upgraded to 20 MP for the first time, supporting new versions of portrait mode and AI beauty mode as well.
In terms of hardware configurations, Meizu 15 uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor, and 15 Plus uses Samsung’s latest Exynos 8895 flagship processor. Meizu 15 has 4GB of RAM and the option of 64GB or 128GB of storage. The 15 Plus has 6GB of RAM with the option of 64GB or 128GB of storage. They both have USB Type-C ports and 3.5mm audio jacks. The battery capacities for Meizu 15 and 15 Plus are 3000mAh and 3500mAh respectively, and both support the 24W mCharge quick charger.
Prices: Meizu 15 with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage is priced at 2499 yuan ($397), while the 128GB version is priced at 2799 yuan ($445); 15 Plus with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage is priced at 2999 yuan ($477), while the 128GB version is priced at 3299 yuan ($524).
