Metaverse Jobs on Chinese Recruitment Platform Up 16.6% YoY From January to July

Chinese recruitment platform Zhaopin released its 2022 Talent Development Report on the Metaverse Industry on September 26. The document points out that metaverse-related sectors have shown positive development trends in terms of job growth and salary. From January to July, the number of jobs related to the metaverse on the platform increased by 16.6% year-on-year.

According to Zhaopin, the average salary for metaverse workers from January to July 2022 was 18,515 yuan ($2,584) per month. Among the top 20 positions, deep learning, machine learning, data architecture, mobile development, machine vision and others have average salaries of more than 30,000 yuan, and deep learning positions rank at the top with 39,971 yuan per month.

According to the report, among the top 10 positions in various subdivisions of the metaverse, VR/AR enterprises are mainly recruiting software and hardware R&D engineers, including algorithm engineers, JAVA engineers, hardware engineers and so on.

Talent in gaming or design is in high demand for virtual human and social metaverse fields, such as those involved in game development engines, game design development, and 3D design. There is no shortage of game posts on the recruitment list of metaverse social enterprises, because games can quickly shorten social links. Digital collection platforms are in great demand for operation talent. As the localized development form of NFTs, digital collection needs more sale channels. Therefore, positions in customer service, community operations and user operations account for more than 30% of all jobs they offer.

Data from Zhaopin showed that the number of jobs related to the metaverse have achieved a significant increase amid the continuing affects of the pandemic and slowing economic growth in China. The top 5 industries for recruiting talent in the metaverse field are internet and communication, training and scientific research, media and sports, manufacturing, and real estate. It can be seen that the current application of metaverse technology in China is still highly concentrated within the IT industry, although it is spreading into fields of education, media, manufacturing, real estate and so on.

In terms of geographical distribution, demand for metaverse talent is mainly concentrated in first-tier cities and new first-tier cities, among which Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen rank the top three, accounting for 21.9%, 11.5% and 9.3% of the vacancies respectively. Influenced by policy support and other factors, new first-tier and second-tier cities have showed strong growth trends. From January to July this year, the growth rate of jobs was 22.4% and 19.0%, which exceeded that in first-tier cities.
