NIO Announces Opening of Operations in Norway, New ES8 Priced at $69,151

Chinese electric vehicle maker NIO announced today that NIO House in Oslo, Norway will officially open on Friday. The new location has a total area of 2,100 square meters making it the largest user center in the core area of Norway.

In addition, the Oslo Service and Delivery Center with an area of 1,800 square meters will open in October, and provides services including mobile service vehicles and door-to-door pick-up and delivery vehicles.

In July of this year, the company’s first batch of intelligent electric flagship SUV NIO ES8 vehicles were shipped to Norwegian customers from Shanghai. By the end of 2022, NIO will build 20 second-generation power stations in Norway, covering the top five major cities and major expressways in the country. Norway’s first series of charging and parts stations will be put into operation by the end of October.

Combined with freight, local taxes and operating costs, the starting price of the NIO ES8 with a standard battery pack is 609,000 Norwegian kroner ($69,151). The NIO ES8 with the long-life battery pack starts at 679,000 Norwegian kroner ($77,099) and has a range of up to 500 km under WLTP conditions.

The electric vehicle supplier will provide comprehensive energy services in Norway. Norwegian users who choose BaaS service can enjoy NIO‘s power exchange network and flexible battery upgrade service. Users do not need to buy battery packs when buying cars, but can choose to rent battery packs with different capacities according to their actual needs. Users will then only pay corresponding service fees on a monthly basis.

Besides the ES8, the ET7, NIO‘s first sedan model, will be the firm’s second model to enter the Norwegian market and will be delivered in the second half of 2022.

Previously, Li Bin, Chairman of NIO, said that in the process of entering overseas markets, the biggest difference between NIO and other enterprises lies in the adoption of all directly managed sales and service networks. The company also plans to build four NIO Houses in Bergen, Stavanger, Trondheim and Kristiansand in Norway in 2022.
