NIO to Launch New Model at Annual Company Event on December 18

Chinese electric vehicle (EV) firm NIO officially announced today that its brand-new model will be released at ‘NIO Day 2021′ on December 18.

Every NIO Day, the EV maker releases one or two new products, such as the ES8 in 2017, the ES6 and the six seat version of ES8 in 2018, the EC6 and brand-new ES8 in 2019, and the ET7 in 2020.

It is worth mentioning that leaked images of the NIO ET5 have been exposed online. The model has a very similar front profile to the ET7, but in terms of size, the new vehicle will be smaller than the ET7 model.

According to previous leaks, the NIO ET5 will be built on NIO Technology Platform 2.0, with a length of 4800 mm to 4900 mm and a wheelbase of 2800 mm to 2900 mm. In addition, the NIO ET5 is expected to adopt the second generation digital cockpit technology of NIO, and will have on-board mobile interconnection such as 5G network, WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.2 and UWB.

In terms of power, it is expected that the NIO ET5 will be equipped with NIO‘s second generation electric drive system, with a comprehensive power of 480kW and a peak torque of 850 N • m. In addition, NIO Autonomous Driving is also expected to be installed in the NIO ET5.

In terms of battery life, the NIO ET5 is designed to support battery swap, which can adapt 75kWh and 100kWh ternary lithium batteries, 75kWh ternary lithium iron batteries and 150kWh semisolid-state batteries, which are still in production.
