OPPO Sales Volume Ranks First in Domestic Market in Q1 2022

According to the industry consulting service platform CINNO Research on Monday, in the first quarter of 2022, the sales volume of smartphones in Chinese mainland was about 74.39 million units, showing a decrease of about 14.4% compared with the same period last year.

OPPO’s sales volume ranked first, with a decrease of 37.6% year-on-year, the gap between OPPO and the rapidly rising Honor in sales volume shrank in the first quarter.

Honor’s sales volume ranked second, with a year-on-year increase of 176.0%. Honor has three models that entered the top 10 of the single product sales list in the first quarter, namely Honor 60, Honor X30 and Honor Play 30 Plus.

Although Apple only ranked fourth in the first quarter, its sales volume decreased by 35.0% month-on-month, which was lower than the massive sales at the beginning of the iPhone 13 series release in Q4 2021, but its devices only dropped by 1.3% year-on-year. This is because the last quarter belonged to the shipment period of Apple’s iPhone 13 series with a large base, while the first quarter shows much more normal levels of the company’s sales volume. Apple’s three iPhone 13 series models still firmly ranked top three in the single product sales list, among which the sales volume of the iPhone 13 in a single quarter was 5.58 million units, far ahead of all other smartphones.

According to the monthly data in March, the sales volume of smartphones on the Chinese mainland was about 20.04 million units, with a decrease of 24.7% year-on-year. The top two brands in sales volume were Honor and OPPO, with Honor increasing by 143.6% year-on-year, while OPPO decreasing by 45.9% year-on-year.

CINNO Research believes that the data from March was affected by the epidemic in Shanghai, Shenzhen, Suzhou and other places that has severely disrupted the production and transportation of the electronics industry chain. Further, as the epidemic in Shanghai became more serious throughout the month of April, operations related to the semiconductor supply chain in the Yangtze River Delta region was seriously affected, with the logistics also being delayed, so that the decline of smartphone production will continue.
