On July 6, the solid state battery joint laboratory was established by SAIC, a car company, and QingTao Energy, a developer of solid-state batteries.
The joint effort is to focus on the mass production and application of solid-state power batteries with a range of more than 1,000 kilometers. Further, the batteries will feature 4C fast charging technology and be developed with a high level of safety and longevity in mind. Finally, the companies will work together to further develop the necessary technology for high-efficiency solid-state power batteries.
As planned, a solid-state power battery with a range of more than 1,000 kilometers to be developed by the joint effort will first be put to use in SAIC’s models for next year.
QingTao was established in May 2014 and focuses on the domestic solid-state lithium battery industry. The company has taken the lead in industrializing solid-state lithium batteries through the original development of key materials for lithium batteries, the innovative design of equipment and optimization of the mass production process, and also built the first production line of solid-state lithium batteries in China while constructing a complete and independent intellectual property system. SAIC was involved in QingTao’s E+ and F++ rounds of financing in June 2020 and January 2022.
SAIC, founded in 1997, has models such as plug-in hybrids, pure electric vehicles and hydrogen-fueled models. It will invest 300 billion yuan during the 14th Five-Year Plan in innovation areas such as smart electric vehicles and transform itself into a high-tech enterprise. In March this year, SAIC launched the General Research and Development Institute for Innovation and recently released seven technical development goals.
