Sanya to Offer Up to 10K Yuan Subsidies for Battery-Swapping NEVs

According to a report by Hainan Daily on October 20, from now until March 31 next year, the city of Sanya will provide a gradient subsidy for the promotion of new energy vehicles supporting battery swapping, with up to 10,000 yuan ($1,381) for a single vehicle.

This policy emphasizes that the targets of subsidies are the actual users of newly purchased battery-swapping vehicles in Hainan Province and registered in Sanya City from September 17, 2022 to March 31, 2023. Buyers need to obtain a special license plate for NEVs before April 30, 2023, access the supervision platform, and sign a battery swapping service agreement with local operators in Sanya.

In the first three quarters of this year, Hainan has promoted the adoption of about 53,300 NEVs, exceeding an annual task of 50,000 vehicles three months ahead of schedule, 85.6% of which are owned by individuals.

At the same time, the growth rate of NEVs in Hainan has ranked first in China for many years. By the end of September, the number of NEVs in Hainan had reached 171,700 units, accounting for 9.54% of all vehicles. During the past year, it has surpassed Beijing and Tianjin, only next to Shanghai.

In June this year, the provincial government signed a cooperation agreement with Geely to promote the modification of high-end imported automobiles.

Sanya is the vanguard for the application of NEVs in Hainan. In October, 2021, Sanya successfully entered the first batch of pilot cities for NEVs supporting battery swapping in China. Sanya has now steadily promoted the construction of battery swapping stations and the sales of intelligent vehicles.

Aulton New Energy, NIO, CF Energy and other battery swapping service operators have taken the lead in laying out infrastructure in Sanya. From January to August 2022, eight new battery swapping stations were built in the city, pushing the total number to 16, and about 800 new vehicles have been added. A reasonable network of battery swapping services has been preliminarily established.

The pilot plan of Hainan’s battery swapping mode proposes that in 2021, more than 2,000 new energy vehicles were expected to be sold, and more than 20 battery swapping stations were to be built. By the end of 2025, the two figures are expected to reach 10,000 and 50.
