Tencent’s TiMi Studio Group Establishes New Studio in Montreal to Develop AAA Open World Games

TiMi Studio Group, a subsidiary of Tencent Games, announced on Tuesday that it has established a new AAA game studio TiMi Montréal in Montreal, Canada. It is the third AAA game studio of TiMi Studio Group in North America, alongside the Los Angeles and Seattle studios.

TiMi Montréal will devote itself to creating an AAA open-world and service-centered game for players to play across platforms, and plans to grow into a sizable team by the end of this year.

TiMi Studio Group, headquartered in Shenzhen, has developed Call of Duty: Mobile, Honor of Kings and the upcoming Pokémon UNITE. TiMi also revealed that Sinjin Bain, a highly experienced video game creator, is the director of TiMi Los Angeles.

TiMi Montréal and TiMi Seattle both focus on the development of multi-platform online games with AAA quality, while TiMi Los Angeles serves as a robust management and operations hub in North America, preparing each project to enter its comprehensive production stage.

The team in Montreal has just started. At present, each member holds quite a bit of experience since  all of them  come from well-known game companies such as Ubisoft, Rockstar Games, Bethesda, EA Games, Behaviour Interactive and Google Stadia. According to Vincent Gao, head of overseas development, TiMi is still looking for more top-line talent for TiMi Montréal.

According to GamesBeat, there are more than 15,000 game developers in Montreal. This is mainly due to the tax exemption policies of local governments in Canada and Quebec, which make the cost of hiring developers for companies at the same income level only half that of Texas or San Francisco.

Vincent Gao pointed out that the global mobile game market is larger than the sum of PC and console game markets, and there is still great growth potential in the future. TiMi will continue to support the development of AAA mobile games, and is cooperating with some well-known companies in the field to develop several projects.
