Top 10 Semiconductor Equipment Suppliers in China

On Wednesday, at the 2021 China Semiconductor Equipment Annual Conference (CSEAC) and Chongqing IC Industry Innovation Forum, Jin Cunzhong, Executive Deputy Secretary General of China Electronic Production Equipment Industry Association (CEPEA), introduced the current situation of China’s semiconductor equipment industry.

According to statistics provided by CEPEA, 56 major semiconductor equipment manufacturers in the Chinese mainland have transacted semiconductor equipment sales worth of 24.29 billion yuan ($3.82 billion) in 2020, a year-on-year increase of 38.7%. And their total profit has achieved 5.192 billion yuan, up 80.5% year-on-year. Among them, the total sales revenue of integrated circuit equipment was 9.677 billion yuan, up 59.0% year-on-year.

Jin Cunzhong said that in 2020, the top 10 Chinese semiconductor equipment manufacturers achieved sales revenue of 19.212 billion yuan, accounting for 79.1% of the total sales revenue of the 56 companies on the mainland. Among the top 10 manufacturers, NAURA ranked first with sales revenue of 4.391 billion yuan, up 54.5% year-on-year.

Among the top 10 semiconductor equipment companies in terms of sales revenue in the first half of 2021, NAURA still ranks first with 2.735 billion yuan. In addition, AccoTEST also ranks among the top 10 with sales revenue of 324 million yuan.

Jin Cunzhong said that not only were the sales and profits of domestic equipment growing, but also new products were constantly being developed and released.

However, Jin Cunzhong pointed out that the domestic companies’ international market share is still rather low, while its domestic market share is increasing slowly. In 2020, the 56 China’s semiconductor equipment manufacturers had a international market share of only 5.2% and only 17.3% in the Chinese mainland market, which is basically the same as in 2019.

In addition, some key domestic equipment, such as integrated circuits, still need to be imported. Jin Cunzhong said that domestic lithography machines have been successfully developed, but related products have not yet entered the mass production line of integrated circuit wafers. Among the domestic equipment that has entered the wafer mass production line, wafer manufacturing measurement equipment, chemical vapor deposition equipment, ion implanters, lead bonding equipment and probe stations, are still far behind what’s available outside of the country.

Jin Cunzhong pointed out that the coronavirus epidemic has brought unprecedented challenges to the Chinese semiconductor equipment industry. However, with China’s quick success over the epidemic and the acceleration of expanded production after the realization of mass production of integrated circuit manufacturers investing in China in addition to the national photovoltaic power generation policy, China’s semiconductor equipment industry has grasped opportunities for speedydevelopment.
