Vivo to Announce New Product Codenamed “Butterfly” on March 28

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Vivo released a teaser for its forthcoming model today, publishing an image of a butterfly flapping its wings alongside the caption: “see you on Monday.”

Judging from the promotional poster, this new product may be Vivo’s foldable smartphone, but the new product also seems to contain the design concepts of Vivo X Note, Vivo X FOLD and Vivo Pad. Signs may also suggest that the new product is equipped with a dual ultrasonic on-screen fingerprint sensor.

Recently, Vivo has registered four flagship models powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen1 chipset and two flagship models powered by a Dimensity 9000 chipset to China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), covering the mid-to-high-end folding screen and large-screen full-focus flagship products.

A digital blogger on Weibo with username “Digital Chat Station” also thinks that Vivo will focus on releasing products next month, and that the firm’s first folding screen flagship smartphone is named the Vivo X Fold. The web user predicts that Vivo will apply 3D ultrasonic fingerprint sensors for the first time, which will bring about a better user experience.

In addition, Chinese media outlet Jiemian News learned from sources at Vivo that its foldable smartphone marks a major technological breakthrough in the core hinge component, and its product performance will be equal to that of Huawei and Samsung.

According to public MIIT data, Vivo’s foldable smartphone is equipped with a 6.53-inch FHD + resolution OLED single-hole curved outer screen. It packs a 4600mAh battery which supports 80W wired fast charging and 50W wireless fast charging, with a thickness of only 6.28 mm.
