China Securities Journal reported on Wednesday that a source in the smartphone industry chain said Samsung had an order for an original smartphone design and manufacture (ODM) in 2022, and Wingtech won the order for about 40 million smartphones from Samsung.
Another source in the industry said that Wingtech has recently obtained several smartphone ODM projects, and is further expanding the scale of its smartphone ODM business team.
Wingtech has been one of the leading companies in the smartphone ODM for years, and Samsung is always one of the many significant customers. It is mainly engaged in semiconductor IDM, optical modules and communication product integration, and has formed a whole industrial chain layout covering semiconductor chip design, wafer manufacturing, packaging and testing to optical module, communication terminal, server, laptop, IoT and automotive electronic product R&D and manufacturing.
Taiwan media DIGITIMES reported in October that Wingtech had replaced Quanta, Hon Hai and other Taiwan factories and became the exclusive assembly plant for Apple’s new MacBook in 2022.
At present, there are three major ODM manufacturers in China, namely Huaqin Telecom Technology, Wingtech Technology and Shanghai Longcheer Technology, which are also the largest foundries in the world. According to last year’s data, the shares of these three ODM manufacturers in all ODM smartphone are 33.5%, 27% and 15.8% respectively, totaling as high as 76.3%. Their customers include Xiaomi, Huawei, Samsung, OPPO, Lenovo, LG, Nokia and MEIZU.
