Xiaomi announced new personnel appointment today, confirming rumors that have been swirling on China’s internet since last week. Liu Yaoping, the former CEO of Baofeng TV, joined Xiaomi as the general manager of its TV department. Li Xiaoshuang, the former GM of the department, will serve as GM of the company’s Home Appliances Division.
Before joining Xiaomi, Liu served as head of Skyworth Group’s TV businesses as well as the Chinese home appliance behemoth Haier Group. Since 2014, he was running his own business, Baofeng TV, as CEO and launched Baofeng Internet TV in 2015 to compete with Xiaomi TV and LeTV.
Xiaomi said this appointment highlighted the company’s talent strategy, as well as comprehensively strengthening its AIoT strategy.
The company has been on a high-profile hiring spree recently. Prior to recruiting Liu, Xiaomi also took on Lu Weibing, former Gionee president, Xiao Yanjun, founder of Xiaolaijiao, and former head of Lenovo’s mobile phone business, Chang Cheng.
