Xiaomi Hires More People for Autonomous Driving; New Talent Plan to Be Announced Soon

On July 14th, Xiaomi increased the number of job positions from 24 to 25, all of which are in the field of autonomous driving. According to chinastarmarket.cn, Xiaomi will also soon announce a new talent recruitment plan.

A month ago, on June 14, Xiaomi Corporation published 20 new positions on its jobs page related to autonomous driving, making it the first time a large-scale job posting related to autonomous driving has been released since the official announcement of the company’s expansion into vehicle sector.

As listed in the recruitment information, Xiaomi needs to fill 20 positions in a variety of roles, including for data platforms, vehicle infrastructure, decision planning, millimeter-wave algorithm, development tools, front-end platform development, embedded software, control, perception, HD map and simulation platform.

Interestingly, the work address of the above urgently hired positions are all in Haidian District, Beijing, and therefore, industry insiders suppose that the headquarters of Xiaomi car-making R&D center may be settled in Beijing.

On July 9th, it was reported that Xiaomi acquired Deepmotion, an autonomous driving technology company. A team of more than 20 staff from Deepmotion will join Xiaomi.

Lei Jun, former CEO of Xiaomi Corporation and who is now leading the company’s foray into autonomous driving, says the company is focusing on making cars since Xiaomi its official announcement to do so a few months ago. The current concern is sourcing talent and acquiring supply chain support for making cars.

On June 13, at the China Auto Chongqing Summit 2021, Wang Chuanfu, Chairman and President of BYD Co., Ltd., said that BYD and Xiaomi Group were discussing cooperating on some auto projects. BYD is said to be supporting the development of Xiaomi Auto in the automobile sector.

On July 12th, some media reported that Lei Jun visited SAIC headquarters and had earlier visited BYD, Great Wall Motor, Changan Auto, SGMW along with several other car companies.
