Xiaomi is the world’s first to adopt a 108MP camera in the smartphone. The Mi Mix Alpha, announced in September 2019, is a concept phone mainly with two highlights: a 108MP camera, and an innovative screen called Surround Display with a staggering 180.6% screen-to-body ratio.

Mi Mix Alpha comes with a 7.92-inch flexible display, 4050mAh battery supporting 40W fast charging, 5G connectivity, an in-display fingerprint sensor, 12GB RAM and up to 512GB storage. As for its camera setup, the phone has no front camera, but with triple cameras on the back panel, including a primary 108MP Samsung HMX sensor (world’s first 108MP sensor debuted by Samsung in August 2019), a 20MP wide-angle camera and a 12MP telephoto camera. You can use the rear camera to take selfies easily.

However, this futuristic phone is not available to buy now. Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun had replied on Weibo that Mi MIX Alpha failed to enter the mass production phase on August 9, 2020.

The Xiaomi CC9 Pro, known as Mi Note 10 Pro in the oversea market, is the world’s first mass-produced smartphone with a 108MP primary camera, as the Mi MIX Alpha was only showcased as a concept.

It’s also the first camera phone with five-camera: a 108MP primary camera with an f/1.69 aperture; a second 20MP camera with an f/2.2 aperture; a third 12MP camera with an f/2.0 aperture; a fourth 5MP camera and 2MP camera with an f/2.4 aperture. And the penta-camera phone has a 32MP camera on the front for selfies, with an f/2.0 aperture.

Apart from the camera, it features a 6.47-inch display, massive 5,260mAh battery, 30W fast charging support, and Snapdragon 730G chipset.

Among Samsung’s latest Galaxy S20 series, the Galaxy S20 Ultra stands out with its 108MP quad-camera and 40MP selfie camera setup. Except for the main 108MP wide-angle sensor, it has a 12MP ultra wide camera, a 48MP telephoto camera, and a DepthVision camera. Its 48MP telephoto camera uses Samsung’s first periscope lens, to deliver 10x hybrid optic Zoom and up to 100x digital zoom. It also supports high-resolution 8K video shooting.

The S20 Ultra has a 6.9-inch display with superb 120Hz refresh rate, powerful 5000mAh battery, 108MP quad-camera setup and 5G connectivity. As Samsung’s premium model, the phone is a little expensive. The 256GB version of the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G sells at the price of around $1400, which is more expensive than the iPhone 11 Pro Max.

Xiaomi’s latest flagship Mi 10 Pro and Mi 10 are the first Xiaomi phones to be powered by Snapdragon 865, and they are also among the first batch of 108MP camera phones. The Mi 10 Pro sports a 6.67-inch 90Hz AMOLED panel, dual-mode 5G, and supports 50W wired as well as 30W wireless charging.

For its camera setup, in addition to the main sensor of 108MP, same as the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra, Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro has a 20MP ultra wide angle shooter, a 10x Hybrid Zoom camera and a 12MP 2x zoom camera that helps enhance portraits. The phone also supports 8K shooting as the S20 Ultra.

The non-pro version Xiaomi Mi 10 replaces the two zoom cameras with a basic 2MP depth sensor and 2MP macro camera.
