Wingtech’s Nexperia Acquires Dutch Chip Firm Nowi
Nexperia, a subsidiary of Hong Kong-based semiconductor company Wingtech, announced that it had completed an acquisition of Dutch chip firm Nowi on November 11.
Nowi, which was established in 2016, mainly provides energy collection power management chips, which can effectively manage the weak energy collected from the environment and provide energy support for Internet of Things sensors, electronic tags, smart bracelets and other devices.
“Nowi represents a strategically important investment because energy harvesting is the perfect complement to Nexperia’s existing power management capabilities,” says Dan Jensen, General Manager Business Group Analog & Logic ICs at Nexperia. “This decision means Nexperia can now offer customers a sustainable alternative to battery power for their products, that will be available in the market quickly.”

Nexperia is a world leading professional manufacturer of discrete components, logic components and MOSFET components. Headquartered in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, it is the former Standard Products division of NXP, with more than 60 years of experience in semiconductor R&D and manufacturing. In 2019, Wingtech acquired 100% equity at a price of $5.3 billion. This is the largest acquisition in the history of China’s semiconductor industry.
Wingtech, founded in 2006, was involved in the production and design of mobile phone motherboards during the early stages of its business, gradually transforming into an original design manufacturer in 2008, and then went public. After it acquired Nexperia, it bought the largest chip factory in the UK through its subsidiary in 2021. It has also acquired four subsidiaries of former Apple supplier OFilm to gain knowledge of how to make optical components and camera modules. With the help of Nexperia, Wingtech also has chip packaging and testing facilities in Guangdong, the Philippines and Malaysia, and its equipment and parts production bases are all over China, Japan, India and Indonesia.
On the evening of October 28, Wingtech disclosed its third-quarter financial report. The company achieved operating income of 13.589 billion yuan ($1.93 billion) in the third quarter, down 2.07% year-on-year. The net profit was 762 million yuan, down 5.83% year-on-year. In the first three quarters, the net profit was 1.944 billion yuan, down 4.79% year-on-year. The financial report shows that its semiconductor business is continuing to grow, and that automotive semiconductors have obvious advantages.
