ByteDance Tests AI Chatbot Product “Grace”

Amidst a flood of AI products from leading corporations such as Baidu, Huawei, and Alibaba, ByteDance’s AI project has also emerged on the surface.
TechPlanet exclusively learned that ByteDance is internally testing an AI chatbot product, tentatively named “Grace”, which is currently undergoing refinement and testing.
In response to the aforementioned news, TechPlanet sought confirmation from ByteDance, to which the person in charge responded: “Grace is the internal code name for an AI conversation testing project, which is still in the early stages, and is only used for internal trial testing.”
Compared to other corporate AI projects, the public knows very little about ByteDance’s AI business. Before working on large models, ByteDance has rolled out painting and special effects AIGC functions at the product level of TikTok and Toutiao, exploring the perceptual experience of end users.
In February this year, according to 36Kr reports, ByteDance already had plans in large models, aiming to make efforts in both language and image. The language large model team is led by the ByteDance Search Department, with a current team size of about a dozen people; the image large model team is led by the Intelligent Creation Team under the Product R&D and Engineering Architecture Department, headed by Zhu Wenjia, a core technical personnel of ByteDance.
This indicates that ByteDance has officially entered the large model frenzy, developing derived products and applications based on large models.
Now, with ByteDance testing a new conversational AI project, the mysterious veil of the progress of ByteDance’s AI project has been officially unveiled. Industry insiders analyze that, according to the general product testing cycle, this project may start testing for the public in about two months.
In the current AI boom, companies of all kinds are laying out their plans. Among the big corporations, Baidu‘s Wenxin Yiyi, Alibaba‘s Tongyi Qianwen, and iFlytek’s Xinghuo Cognitive AI large model, have all started external testing, and have even achieved implementation in some areas.
In addition to the big corporations, some domestic vertically segmented track companies are also entering the scene. For example, the internet education platform Homework Help is beta testing a large educational model based on the Chinese market, which includes functions such as multi-disciplinary problem solving and Chinese-English essay correction; internet overseas company Kunlun Wanwei has also started to launch the “Kunlun Tiangong” series model domestically, including the entire Kunlun Tiangong series and the “Tiangong” large language model, realizing applications in pictures, music, text, programming, and other fields.

It can be seen that seizing the domestic AI market dividend has become a consensus among many enterprises.
Although the current AI market is still in its early stages, the potential is huge. According to iMedia Consulting data, it is estimated that the core market size of China’s AIGC industry will be 7.93 billion yuan in 2023 and will reach 276.74 billion yuan by 2028. In the future, it will attract more players to join.
