Chinese E-commerce Giants Revise After-sales Rules, Introducing “Refund Only” Policy

On Wednsday, Alibaba‘s e-commerce platform, Taobao, announced its plan to revise its dispute resolution rules. Under the new regulations, if a buyer initiates a compliant after-sales request, they will be eligible for expedited refund or return and refund procedures.

In addition to Taobao, JD.com has also updated its platform rules, which implement a new standard for refunds without returns, effective from December 29. Simultaneously, JD.com has introduced support for “refund only” in case of transaction disputes, a departure from their previous policy where consumers could only apply for exchanges and returns with refunds.

Consequently, including Pinduoduo, all three major Chinese e-commerce platforms have now adopted the “refund only” policy.
