Chinese EV Manufacturers Release December Delivery Data

At the beginning of 2022, several Chinese car manufacturers released delivery data for December 2021, showing the development potential of the country’s electric vehicle (EV) market.

BYD sold 99,112 vehicles last December, adding to the total sale of 740,131 vehicles in 2021, up 73.34% year-on-year. Its sale of new energy vehicles in December 2021 was 93,945, compared with the sale of 28,841 in the same period of 2020. In 2021, BYD’s cumulative sales volume of new energy vehicles was 604,783, up 218.3% year-on-year.

Affected by an ongoing local outbreak of COVID-19 cases in Xi’an, which began in the latter half of December, the output of BYD’s Xi’an automobile production base has been limited to a certain extent. At this point, however, the production of the base has basically returned to normal.

NIO Inc. delivered 10,489 vehicles in December 2021, representing a year-on-year increase of 49.7%. In 2021, the company delivered a total of 91,429 vehicles, up 109.1% year-on-year. Up to December 31, 2021, NIO‘s cumulative delivery volume of the ES8, ES6 and EC6 models reached 167,070 vehicles.

In 2022, NIO will deliver three new models. Its NIO No. 2 Production Base located in the “NeoPark” Xinqiao Intelligent Electric Vehicle Industrial Park will be officially put into production in the third quarter of 2022.

In December 2021, Li Auto delivered 14,087 Ideal ONEs, marking an increase of 130% compared with that of December 2020. In the fourth quarter of 2021, the Ideal ONE was delivered for a total of 35,221 units, an annual increase of 143.5%.  From January to December 2021, the Ideal ONE was delivered for a total of 90,491 units, increasing 177.4% compared with that of 2020.

In 2021, Leapmotor delivered a total of 43,121 vehicles. Among them, the delivery in December reached a new high of 7,807 units, up 368% year-on-year. In terms of models, in 2021, Leap Motor delivered 38,463 units of the Leap Motor T03 and 4,021 units of the Leap Motor CII, whose deliveries started on October 22, 2021.

ZEEKR, a subordinate of Geely, launched its first mass-production model Zeekr 001 on April 15, 2021. 3,796 units of this model were delivered in December 2021. By contrast, the delivery volume of the Zeekr 001 in November 2021 reached just 2,012 vehicles.

In December 2021, Hozon Auto delivered 10,127 vehicles for a year-on-year increase of 236%, of which the Hozon V series was delivered for 5,280 units and the Hozon U Pro was delivered for 4,847 units. In 2021, about 64% of Hozon users came from first-tier, new first-tier and second-tier cities.

WM Motor delivered 5,062 vehicles in December 2021, with a total delivery of 15,114 vehicles in the fourth quarter. In 2021, the company’s cumulative delivery volume was 44,157 vehicles, representing an increase of 96.3% year-on-year, which was close to the total cumulative delivery volume of the past three years.
