Lenovo Announces Moto Z3 with 5G Module, the World’s First 5G Smartphone

At the 2018 Lenovo Tech World on Sept. 27, Yang Yuanqing, chairman and CEO of Lenovo announced that Lenovo will launch the world’s first 5G smartphone “moto Z3”, confirming earlier news about Lenovo being the first to launch a smartphone with 5G support and Snapdragon 855 processor.

According to Yang, the moto Z3 is connected to an external Qualcomm 5G module, officially named the Lenovo 5G Link. “The 5G module (Lenovo 5G Link) which can be used as a hub for 5G access will enter the market in early 2019. By then, Lenovo will become the first manufacturer to provide 5G experience for mobile users.”

According to Qualcomm’s official website, once the 5G module is attached to the back of the phone, it gains the ability to access mmWave 5G using the Snapdragon X50 5G modem, and the latest in 4G technology with the Snapdragon X24 LTE modem. The 5G module also has an additional 2000mAh battery, which can also be used as an external battery to charge the phone.

The moto Z3, which was first announced on August 2 was also showcased at the event. The phone features a 6.01-inch Super AMOLED Full HD+ display and a protective Corning Gorilla Glass 3 glass cover. It has a resolution of 1080 x 2160 megapixels and an aspect ratio of 18:9. It is also equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 octa-core processor and runs on an Android 8.1 operating system.
