OnePlus 5T Arrives with Face Unlock

The highlight of the flagship OnePlus 5T, unveiled in the second half of this year, is supports for the popular face unlock function.

Unlike the Face ID technology used by iPhone X, the OnePlus 5T isn’t equipped with a depth mapping camera and relies entirely on its conventional front-facing camera. This makes it less than safe for face scanning.

Since the function does not rely on hardware and because of repeated requests, OnePlus decided to offer the function as a Christmas present. Face unlock is coming for the OnePlus 5T.

OnePlus co-founder, Carl Pei, tweeted last Sunday that face unlock would be available on the OnePlus 5T. The tweet reads as follows:

However, OnePlus has not announced the specific launch date and release plan at present. It is expected the function will arrive in an upcoming system upgrade.
