Chinese Social Media Platform Weibo Issues First ESG Report
China’s leading microblogging site Weibo released its first Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) report on August 2, mainly covering the information and data of the platform in 2021.
According to the report, as of December 2021, the number of monthly active users of Weibo was 573 million, of which 95% were mobile users. The product and development team has 3,015 people, accounting for 49% of the total employees, focusing on technology, data and product development.
Weibo has built a more complete network security management system covering four levels: technology, management, auditing and intelligence.
In 2021, Weibo provided incentives for content creators, as well as ad and marketing customers. At present, Weibo helps high-quality content creators cash their social assets through advertisement, e-commerce and paid subscription, and supports their output and growth through training and assessment mechanisms.
In order to maintain the order of the Weibo community and protect the legitimate rights and interests of its users, Weibo has formulated the “Detailed Operation Rules for Weibo Complaints,” and has worked out the “Weibo Community Convention” together with its users. The content published on Weibo will undergo strict system testing. In addition to the content produced by creators, Weibo will also review the content security of interactive sections such as comment areas.
To create social value, Weibo has established the Weibo Charity Platform, dedicated to serving public welfare as early as 2012. So far, more than 40 million Weibo users have participated in public welfare and charitable projects through the platform, contributing more than 600 million yuan ($88.74 million) to over 25,000 projects.
