BYD Aims to Open 100 Sales Stores in Japan by 2025
According to Kyodo News on August 18, BYD Auto Japan Inc. President Liu Xueliang said in an interview that the company is now aiming to open 100 electric car sales stores in Japan by 2025. Liu also said that the company has yet to consider building a factory in Japan.
Liu said that BYD has developed IT-related battery business in Japan for 23 years, supplying electric buses to Fukushima, Kyoto and Okinawa. It’s now a natural step to enter the Japanese passenger car market and put EVs on sale.
Regarding the question of supply of parts, Liu replied that some parts relied on overseas sources, but most of the core parts of EVs were manufactured in-house.
On July 21, BYD held a conference in Tokyo and announced its entry into the Japanese passenger car market. Three EV models, the Yuan PLUS, Dolphin and Seal, were unveiled. The Yuan PLUS will be launched in January 2023, while the Dolphin and Seal are scheduled to go on sale in mid-2023 and the second half of the year, respectively.

BYD is accelerating its overseas expansion. On August 1, the firm announced its cooperation with Hedin Mobility, a European dealer group. The two sides will jointly provide high-quality new energy vehicle products for Sweden and Germany. Hedin Mobility Group will open offline stores in several Swedish cities. In the German market, BYD and Hedin are jointly selecting high-quality local dealers that operate in regions across Germany.
In the field of commercial vehicles, BYD’s pure electric buses now operate in more than 100 cities in more than 20 countries in Europe, and in more than 400 cities in more than 70 countries and regions around the world. In the field of passenger cars, BYD’s Tang EV has been well received by local consumers since its launch in Norway in August last year.
