Great Wall Motor’s HAVAL H6 PHEV Debuts in Thailand

Chinese automotive firm Great Wall Motor’s HAVAL H6 PHEV model officially went on sale in Thailand on October 7, marking the first time the car has been launched in an overseas market since its domestic launch on September 28. Orders topped 1,000 units in just 40 minutes, and the model is scheduled to be delivered to customers in Thailand in mid-November.

So far, the HAVAL H6 HEV, HAVAL JOLION HEV, ORA Good Cat and ORA Good Cat GT have officially been launched in the Thai market. The arrival of the HAVAL H6 PHEV means that Great Wall Motor has developed a new energy product matrix covering EV, HEV and PHEV in Thailand, thereby enriching consumer choice. Great Wall Motor is not limited to providing products and services to users in Thailand, but also aims to make the country a key EV R&D and manufacturing center in the ASEAN region.

Narong Sritalayon, General Manager of Marketing for Great Wall Motor’s Thai division, said that “HAVAL H6 PHEV is the company’s first plug-in hybrid model for the Thai market. The H6 PHEV was unveiled in Thailand at the end of last year to attract great anticipation from car enthusiasts, and since the opening of the pre-sale on September 17, the intention orders for the H6 PHEV have exceeded 7,000 units.”

The HAVAL H6 PHEV has a length, width and height of 4,683×1,886×1,730 mm and a wheelbase of 2,738 mm. It is equipped with four driving modes: Standard, Economy, Sport and Snow. Built on the “L.E.M.O.N.” platform of Great Wall Motor, it uses a 1.5 liter turbo engine. The maximum power of the system is 240kW, while torque is 530 N·m.

Li Ruifeng, CGO of Great Wall Motor, compared this new car to BYD’s models at the launch conference, saying that BYD has the DM-i and HAVAL has the super-hybrid DHT. He also referred to BYD’s Song PLUS as a rival of HAVAL H6 PHEV.

Except for its right rudder arrangement, the new car in Thailand basically follows the design scheme of the Chinese market version, with a 12.3 inch central control screen to reflect a sense of technology. The H6 PHEV is also equipped with a Mobileye EyeQ4 chip with ultra-high computing power, enabling L2 intelligent driving assistance functions such as adaptive cruise control, traffic jam assistance, automatic reverse assistance, and automatic emergency braking. Its sale price after subsidies in China reached 159,800 yuan to 173,800 yuan ($22,456 – $24,423).

By the end of September, Great Wall Motor had sold 11,796 new energy vehicles in Thailand. Among them, as the first new energy vehicle to be released in Thailand, the HAVAL H6 HEV has been ranked first in the C-class SUV segment in Thailand for 11 months. At the same time, Great Wall Motor has been deeply committed to localization in Thailand, introducing localized production and operation of its subsidiaries, such as HYCET Technology, Nobo Auto, Mind Electronics and Electric Appliances.
