Newsletter: Chinese Tech Giants Discuss the Future of Technology during the Two Sessions

Here’s this week’s roundup of China tech stories.

This March, in the Great Hall of the People, we spotted many of the big shots in the tech industry in China, who temporarily put their entrepreneurial roles aside and transform into government advisors for the coming days.

Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi and one of the celebrity entrepreneurs talked about his expectations for 5G deployment as well as the space industry in China.

As we know, 5G will bring faster speeds, higher capacity, stronger signal and connectivity, faster cloud processing and lower latency. Pandaily has concluded a list of the best 5G phones to be released in 2019.

As for excursions in the space, China is now planning to send a probe to Marsnext year, and a grand total of four deep space exploration missions before 2030, including probes to Mars, Jupiter, and various asteroids. Just as Lei has written in his proposal, “Space infrastructure is one of the most important measurements of a country’s high-tech productivity.”

On February 28, the video social networking app Musical.ly, now known as TikTok, was fined $5.7 million by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for illegally collecting personal information from children under the age of 13. Enterprises shall always take the lead in enhancing cyber protection for minors against all sorts of inappropriate online exposure.

In the meantime, the yearly college entrance exam is befalling within three months. It is an excruciatingly stressful experience for all high school kids across China both mentally and physically. Their entire lives have been leading up to this moment, and their future sort of depends on it.
